Happy Autumn!

Hello readers, hope you've had a good Summer! I've had a great time swimming in the sea and exploring the downs (as you can see by my new designs!) I'm taking part in events and commissions in all sorts of places at the moment. Interested? Read on…

The Big Hoot

As you might know, I painted a space-themed design onto a giant owl sculpture in the name of charity. My design, "One Giant Hoot for Owl-kind", joined over 80 other giant birds across Birmingham this Summer and there's still time to see them if you're quick. The outdoor exhibition is on till the 27th September, when they will be packed up and auctioned off in aid of Birmingham Children's Hospital. If you can't see the owls in the flesh don't fear, check out The Big Hoot's Twitter for lots of pictures and their shop to buy owl merchandise. Twwoo!

CUT OUT + KEEP INTERVIEW

Some time ago, I was approached by Cat at Cut Out + Keep who do something called Superstar Sundays, where they interview designers/makers/artists after asking them to create their own version of Crafterella, the blog mascot. Crafterella is at least part cat and mine is no exception, although she is a superhero saving the world from craft project catastrophes too!

Lewes Exhibition

I've got a small display of my artwork including originals, prints and cards in the windows of Lewes Framers, in the picturesque Sussex town. My work will be on show and sale from mid September until Bonfire Night. Lewes is one of my favourite bits of the local area and has a wonderful Victorian outdoor pool called Pells Pools. It's inspired me to create a new piece called "Lido Time", which will be on display (and is also available in my Etsy / NOTHS shops too!)

ETSY SHOPPING

Speaking of shopping I've been busy revamping my Etsy shop and filling it with lots of goodies. Luckily for me my talented sister Emma is an expert cross stitch pattern maker and she's been amending some of my designs to make into printable patterns that you can stitch yourself. If you're feeling crafty check out the Christmas Reindeer, the ever-popular Flight of Fancy, and new arrivals: a bunch of Meow Stitch patterns.

As a thank you for being part of my newsletter, I'm giving all subscribers 10% off my products in my Etsy Shop until the end of October. Just enterAUTUMNNEWS when you place your order.

The Big Hoot is Open!

Back in May/ June time I was busily painting a space themed design onto a giant model of an owl for a charity exhibition in Birmingham. I'm pleased to announce my owl made the journey safely to Birmingham and is now on display alongside over 80 other owls. If you're in the city between now and 27th September you can enjoy a fun day out spotting all the owls on the trail  (Mine is no.6)

My friend and fellow owl painter Kate Leonard took these photos at the launch. Thanks Kate!

The Big Hoot Owl in progress

Earlier on this year I created a design for the Big Hoot (a charity art exhibition to be held this Summer in Birmingham). He or she is entitled One Giant Hoot for Owlkind to reflect the space theme of the design. Although I don't want to give away the whole piece now (and spoil the excitement!) here are a few shots of the owl developing over the last 3 or so weeks. To find out more visit www.thebighoot.co.uk

(This last photo isn't an owl, it's my cat Cleo "helping" with morale, by pretending to be a shrub.

The Big Hoot Art Exhibition

I recently created a submission for the Big Hoot, an event that will be held this Summer in Birmingham exhibiting 100 owls beautifully painted giant owls, which will then be auctioned off for Birmingham childrens hospital. My design is a space owl nicknamed "One giant Hoot for Owlkind" as I thought it would be appealing topic for children and appropriate considering we think of owls as nigtht creatures, and it's pretty dark in space! I'll find out in the next few weeks if I'm chosen.
