Radio Times Commission

I was delighted to be contacted by the Radio Times a few weeks ago to create a quick turnaround job. The design illustrates accompanies an article on BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra Stories: Chris Stark’s Dry Diary, as the presenter gives up alcohol for a month to investigate why more young people are abstaining from alcohol altogether. My design focuses on a young women stamping on some (rather scared looking!) alcoholic drinks and to emphasize the foot I gave the whole design a weird looking perspective!

Inner Circle Magazine Cover

Happy New Year everyone!

A few months ago I was back in touch with Inner Circle magazine (who I've illustrated for on several occassions). I created the cover illustration for the new issue of the online magazine (the magazine for alumni of Regents College). The new issue contains a story on the new school of fashion and textiles, but I wanted to stay away from the traditional images of fashion (models and high fashion clothes) as much as possible and focus on the making. To get this across I drew loads of giant bits of equipment such as sewing machines, scissors and an iron, to focus on the making side of things. You can see the whole magazine here.

Top Sante Dreams Illustrations

I was asked back to create 2 more illustrations for this months Top Sante magazine. The feature I was given to illustrate was on dreams, taking control of them to solve problems, in therapy and  to wake up happier. The lady in the piece is managing to harness the power of dreams to  get over a relationship. In the second smaller illustration the same character is dreaming of a scenario she wants to solve so has taken an image of the problem to bed with her to help her mind focus on it when she dreams. The illustrations are in November's issue of the magazine.

Health Illustrations for Top Sante Magazine

I was pleased to be asked back to create another 2 illustrations for October’s issue of Top Sante magazine. They are to accompany an article on the health questions every women should ask. I wanted to keep a positive feel to the illustrations by using bright colours and uplifting imagery, although I did need to include 1 or 2 medical items for pills and blood pressure. To make it clear what all the issues were, I was asked to add type which I really enjoyed making by hand (and think are pretty successful even though I do say so myself!). Hopefully I'll be able to do more handmade type soon. The magazine is out now.

Top Sante Magazine

A month or 2 ago I was asked to create 3 illustrations for the Therapy issue of Top Sante magazine. My brief was to illustrate 3 new types of therapy, (interacting with horses, art therapy and even getting therapy over skype). I wanted to illustrate the calming influence of these alternative forms of therapy on patients so created 3 magical countryside scenes in the background to complement the main form of therapy happening in each piece. You can see my illustrations in May's issue on sale now.

Top Sante Magazine Illustrations

I was asked to create not one but two illustrations for this month’s Top Sante Magazine. The illustrations accompany an article entitled “New Year, No Fear” about gaining self confidence and self belief. The first image focuses on chucking out all the negative feelings, whilst the second is about taking a leap of faith. It felt like the perfect brief for my style! Here are the illustrations and an initial sketch too.

Pretty Nostalgic Magazine

I illustrated an article for the lovely vintage inspired Pretty Nostalgic magazine. This particular piece was about the rise of the underground supper club. I wanted to get across the magical and fantastical nature of the supper club happening in secret locations in cities all round the UK (hence the cityscape with the world of the supper club happening beneath our very feet!). The illustrations are in May’s issue.

New Editorial Illustration

Here's a new editorial illustration I completed just before Christmas for Regents College Alumni magazine Inner Circle. The article focused on the pro's and con's of doing business in Africa and I wanted to focus on the positive and less well known aspects (such as the space program).

Inner Circle Magazine

Oh dear it's been a little while since my last post, things have been very busy! I was really pleased to recieve my copy of Inner Circle Magazine last week (for alumni of Regents College). My illustrations are on the front cover and illustrating an article. Was really fun to create nice bold images and I even managed to sneak in an elephant and some birds onto the front cover (even though the piece is about the recession and business!) You can read the magazine online.
